A second officer has been removed from a shooting scene in Clark County this afternoon, hours after the incident sparked a massive law enforcement response that included multiple SWAT departments.

The mobile home in which the incident occurred also is on fire, our crew at the scene is reporting, fully involved in flames.

The second wounded officer was evacuated from the scene about 2:30 p.m. Medics frantically worked to administer aid, but no additional details were available on that officer’s condition.

Earlier, at least five shots rang out about 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon as Clark County sheriff’s deputies and other area police departments worked to end a standoff at a mobile home park near South Vienna in Harmony Twp.

About 1:40 p.m., an injured sheriff’s deputy was loaded into an ambulance that left the scene. The deputy, who appeared to suffer a leg injury, was alert and talking to medics.

The incident, which began about 11:35 a.m. Sunday, drew a massive police presence.

The incident happened in the 1100 block of Ashwood Drive, according to reports, and multiple SWAT officers have responded.

Peggy Dennin, an area resident, said, “We just had a lot of cops coming in and we’ve heard a lot of gunfire. SWAT teams are everywhere.”

Two CareFlight helicopters landed near the scene and were on standby.

Ashwood Drive is in the Harmony Estates Mobile Home Park, which is between Interstate 70 and U.S. 40 east of Springfield. and about 3 miles west of South Vienna.

A nearby resident said she and her family, totaling six people, could not evacuate their home and described some of the activity that has happened.

Officers were using vehicles of residents as shields, said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous. She said several shots were fired about 12:30 p.m., and SWAT officers appeared to use flash-bang style weapons and armored personnel vehicles near the mobile home where the shooting happened.

Because it was hot, officers rolled water bottles along the ground to each other while maintaining their positions, the woman said.

Clark County dispatchers were not able to provide information about the incident.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
