The market for prefabricated houses continues to grow and the offer of this type of modular housing that can be installed almost anywhere is increasing. As supply has increased, the price of these homes has also fallen, but to live in a prefabricated house, other factors must be taken into account that, in the end, must be added to the cost. The Idealista portal interviews a homeowner named Clara, who owns a house made from shipping containers, and she details how much the whole project has cost her."The final price of the house, with all the finishes (insulation, windows and door, locks, cladding, complete kitchen and bathroom, bars on the windows, electrical and water installation, etc.) is 45,751.86 euros", explains the owner."The house consists of two containers joined, in such a way that they create a rectangle. The measurements of each maritime container are 12.4m x 2.4m, approximately, so the house will have an external measurement of 12.4m x 4.8m Inside, there will be two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen-living room," he adds."According to what we have calculated, approximately 55,000 euros will be spent on the final work, with the house and preparation of the land. There are several things that have already been done for several years, such as the flattening of the land, so in that sense we have been able to save money," the owner told Idealista.Regarding choosing a container to another type of house, Clara says that: "Yes, they are cheaper than other constructions that we have considered. Many told us that it was a lot of money and that a typical prefabricated house would have been better. But the products that we looked at, they did not assure us of the quality or the guarantees of durability that a refurbished maritime container does offer us"."It has all the typical characteristics of a regular home. In the urbanization, there is electricity and water, so we only had to ask them to connect us to the house to have electricity (we are still waiting for them to come and connect the box to the network of the urbanization) and put the pipes. As it is a plot destined to the cultivation of orange and olive trees, this last part has been easier", affirms the owner."In order to depend less on electricity and lower the level of consumption, we have decided to install solar panels on the roof of the house. This will fulfill two functions: supply electricity to the house and remove sun and heat from it," he adds.Any reproduction without the written permission of the company is prohibited for the purposes of article 32.1, second paragraph, of the Law on Intellectual Property.Likewise, for the purposes established in article 33.1 of the Intellectual Property Law, the company records the corresponding reservation of rights, by itself and through its editors or authors.
