KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has added more than 100 modular living units for students on campus that are set to open in the new year.

In a release Monday (Dec. 13), TRU says it’s expanding on-campus housing in Kamloops by adding temporary modular housing. The move comes after the university’s proposal to add temporary portable housing was declined earlier this year. (See previous.)

It says West Gate Dormitories will consist of 114 self-contained private rooms, individual washrooms, and the units will be available to both international and domestic students.

Set up of the village began on Dec. 9 in the XT parking lot, which the university says is an underused lot at the corner of McGill Road and University Drive. Of the 239 parking spots in that lot, 86 of those spaces will still be available.

TRU says students should be able to move in by Jan. 8. 2022, and the housing will be in place until April of 2023, with the option of extending until December 2023.
